Digital Labour Times proved at Jaguar Land Rover

Working in conjunction with Jaguar Land Rover, UK Service Evolution have completed a pilot to derive service operation labour times for warranty service repairs from digital CAD data.

The pilot, conducted by Jaguar Land Rover and UK Service Evolution vehicle technicians working on the forthcoming Land Rover Freelander 2, used Jaguar Land Rover’s in-house synthetic algorithms (similar to MTM, MODAPTS or MEKBY) to calculate labour times for service methods examining the vehicle in the 3D CAD environment rather than as a physical vehicle.

Over 700 service repair operations were assessed in parallel in the physica workshop and in a virtual CAD arena. The comparison of the digitally derived labour times against those produced using the physical prototypes showed a highest deviation of 7%, with an average deviation of less than 1%.
