UKSE targets Service Tools Reduction

15/10/2008

Working with a prestigious automotive OEM client, UKSE have launched a series of process measures with the aim of eliminating the client’s requirement for new special service tooling.

After collating, cataloguing and in some cases drafting CAD geometry for over 4000 items of the client’s Special Service Tooling and Equipment, UKSE engineers are now in a position to evaluate the need for special service tooling and equipment at early stages of vehicle development than has previously been possible. This in turn will allow product development to design new systems to match old tools.

In many cases, the role of the SERP engineers will be to educate and inform design engineers of special tooling requirements and to promote the reuse of existing tooling.

The key objective is to constrain the need for special service tooling to a reduced list of around 450 existing mandatory tools, thus saving both the cost of tool development and supply for UKSE s client.
